Because there is some cross over in committees and the board gets copied on everything anyway- thought I would just put all the committee / board information and questions in one email to cut down on the amount of emails that appear in your inbox.  All of this information also feeds over into the blog, so you can reference that for easy access-  Please read the articles that apply to your committee to make sure you are up to date on what is currently planned- but be sure to let me know what I need to correct.  Please contact any volunteers who are interested in helping in your area.  We don't want the volunteers who have expressed interest to think they are not needed.  For every volunteer that tells you no, or does not respond, there will be some who will say yes.. so be sure to contact them. To access the volunteer database that Amy set up PTA board Directory- Here is a link to the directory of the board members- their position and emails.   Please review the October calendar before we print it.

Grade Level Parent Reps

Purpose: To facilitate communication between Staff and PTA.  These are parents who are involved in the school, in the school on a regular basis and able to answer questions, check boxes, turn in items that are in boxes.   Pre-k parent Rep- Grace Cubas Kinder- Cassi Townsend 1st Grade- Katie Adkins 2nd Grade- Hatizada 3rd Grade- Erin Routh 4th and 5th- Amy Klein Thank you for checking your boxes each week.  If there are any Labels for Education, Box Top, or Coke rewards in your classroom boxes- Please Keep Box tops separate by CLASS- so that the classes get credit for the box tops for the contest.  Put them in a ziploc bag with the teacher's name and drop in grade level box in the mailbox work room (Cheetah boxes under the shelves) Put labels and coke rewards in the drawer under the sink (drawers are labeled) Any papers that are returned, put in yellow box on counter or in the president's mailbox.

Box Top Committee

Purpose: To coordinate and encourage participation in the Box Tops For Education program.   Chair: Erica Arson; Committee: Christian, Holli, Amanda; Board Rep- Kim Staley- Ways and Means Amanda has been counting the box tops, Amanda is sending everything off on Mondayso far Parent reps- please be sure to put each class in a zip lock baggie, so the class gets credit for their box tops

Labels for Education Committee

Purpose: To coordinate and encourage participation in the Labels for education program.  Chair: Holli Melton; Committees:   will be working on pulling this together when we return from break. Board Rep- Kim Staley- Ways and Means Need Chairperson for this

Decorating:

Purpose: to make parents, staff and students feel welcome at GES, at events as well as season decorations - Tisha Caddell/ Myriam Benavides Please give the decorating committee at least 2-3 weeks notice for decor needed for an event.

Communication Committee

Purpose: To facilitate communication between parents, PTA Board, Committees, staff and students- via electronic, printed, verbal, other media as needed.  Committee: Chair- ? Printed news: ? , Facebook, ? , E-news/Web- Deborah, Marquee- Ms. Frick. GES Website Calendar- Lisa Murray, PTA and Parent Printed Calendar-Deborah brown; Internal GES School Calendar- Lamont McMillian, Connect Ed: Kris Vecchione; Bulletin Board- Tisha Caddell Translations; Gloria Malzhan, Copying/ Distributing Materials:  Committees are responsible for their copies Board rep- if this is a standing committee- should there be a communication person on the board? or who is the Board rep over this committee?) - We need some people to help keep our social media up to date.  If you are on facebook, pinterest, google plus, twitter on a regular basis and would be interested in keeping the GES page up to date, please let me know

Book Fair Committee

The Book Fair Committee is meeting for the first time on October 2nd.  Amy Klein has already been working on ideas and what to do for this first book fair of the year.

Fall Festival Committee

Fall Fundraiser

Purpose: To manage, collect and publicize the fall fundraiser from Great Western Committee: Chair- ? Thank you to Courtney, Amy K, Amy F, Tisha Caddell, Jennifer Davis and Erin Routh for all their help this week in  handling all the orders that have come in this past week. Orders will be sent off on Monday to Great Western and should arrive in about 6 weeks. As soon as we know the exact date, we will let you knwo

Year Book Committee

Purpose: To create a yearbook to celebrate our GES students and Staff.  Committee: Dana Martin Dana has been working on the yearbook cover contest- deadline is Nov. 21 for anyone who wants to design a cover.  She is working on putting up fliers and posters to announce the contest, as well as getting fliers out to the classes.  She is also working on developing the advertizing page for companies as another way to bring in revenue for the yearbook.  She has met with Ms. Vecchione to make sure everything is in place to meet the requirements of the administration and will present more information at the next board meeting

Spirit Wear/ PTA store Committee

Purpose: To increase fundraising efforts via Guilford Elementary School Spirit Wear- T-shirts, and other spirit items.  Chair: Cherita Parker/ Katie Adkins Committee: ? New designs have been ordered and orders have been placed.  Waiting for the new orders to arrive.

Funding Factory

Purpose: To collect, encourage and organize the funding factory fundraiser.  Chair: Courtney Faye

ESL Committee

Purpose:  To build a relationship between the ESL community and the PTA.  To be sure that the voices of those who do not speak English as their first language also have a voice within the PTA and that we strive to build that community.  Committee Chair: Grace Cubas

EC Committee

Purpose:  To build a relationship between EC parents, students and the PTA.  To make sure that when plans are made, that EC students are considered.  The PTA represents all students here at GES.  EC Rep: Kacy Pope

This committee is tasked with improving communications and relationships between school staff, and families, education families and caregivers on important issues related to the health and educational success of their children; and helping make each child's potential a reality. Chair:  Open (Board Position) Committee: Open Ps2Cal (People Supporting Public Schools Community Action League) Purpose: To develop and organize meetings, activities and programs to further the goals and purposes of the PTA. This committee is tasked with helping parents find their voice to speak up for our students and schools.  Chair: Valerie Warren  Committee: Cherita Parker, Elizabeth Cruz, Valerie Warren Accelerated Reader Committee Purpose: to provide, coordinate and maintain the AR store for GES students on a quarterly basis.  Chair: Lisa Murry Committee:  A parent rep is needed to be the rep on the board for this committee.  All committees within the school that have a budget must have a rep on the board.  Auditing Committee Purpose: To check PTA financial records on a monthly basis to keep the PTA in good standing with the National PTA.  Chair: Kim Staley, Cassi Townsend, Katie Adkins The audit committee met and a plan was put in to try and get together NextTuesday September 30at 530 at GES pTA rom. Cherita and Erin -I am sure we will ask questions this first time. But what we want to try and do is plan we we can each take on a task and then do that task and rotate each month so each of us are aware of how all this works and we can back each other up and double check all results.  If you can plan if possible to meet with us this first time and advise how stuff is set up etc. then we will. Go for there. We will need books, statements, receipts, all the money forms etc etc. Erin if you can't meet let us know Cassi said she is willing to pick up if you can't be there that night.  If I have missed anything or we need to add anything let us know.  Cassi already has a spreadsheet she has set up and we will set up to share. Beautification Purpose: To Keep the grounds at GES looking beautiful.  Chair:Open? Coke Rewards Purpose: To collect, encourage and organize the Coke Rewards Fundraiser.   Chair: Jennifer Davis Membership Committee Purpose: To increase awareness about the role of PTA, encourage membership of staff and parents, coordiante Membership drives, as well as maintain memberhsip rosters.  We are already above where we were for the entire year last year and memberships are continuing to come in.  The membership contest ends October 31st Chair: Amy Faulkiner Committee: Amy Faulkiner and Kim Staley Nominating Committee Purpose: to facilitate recruitment, vetting and bring to the PTA body, qualified candidates for different positions within the PTA.  Chair: Open (Board Position) Committee: Open We need to go ahead and start working on who will serve on this committee for this coming year.  School Improvement Team (S.I.T) Purpose: To be a voice for the parents as part of the leadership of GES.  To communicate concerns, ideas of parents and to take back ideas and information to the paretns from the monthly meetings: Parent Reps: Brenda Spain, Chavon Bason, Deborah Brown Spirit Night Committee Purpose: To coordinate, encourage, publicize and facilitate Spirit Night activities.  Committee Chair: Kim Staley  Great job to everyone for the hard work to make skate night a success.  So far this year we have had skate night, menchies and Rio Grande.  Kim has also set up Chick Fil a and Home Slice.  Check calendar for specific dates.  PBIS Committee Purpose:  To establish the guidelines and expectations of the students within the school.  The committee is made up of reps from each grade, but a parent rep also serves on this committee as a liason between PBIS and the PTA.  Parent Rep: Lucia Morales The first PBIS meeting is Thursday, Sept 25, so we will get an update at the next meeting.  Male Involvement Purpose:  To draw more male role models into the community here at GES.  To build relationships with the dads and other make role models here at GES.  To provide support for our students as we provide a different persepctive of the males in the lives of our students and help increase the participation of all family members here at GES.  Committee Chair: Russel Dye.
